Week 10 Reflection

WHAT: On Monday we had our Carlton School medal ceremony. I got two golds for soccer and hockey and one silver for long distance. We had Philippa Baker-Hogan, a New Zealand rowing champion hand out our medals. We also went to Wanganui Intermediate to look around at the school and try out some of the activities. I was in group 3 and we went to hard materials. We made spinning tops out of wood. Then we went to the science room. First we watched some youtube video's and then did an experiment. At the end the teacher gave us a little bit of sherbet. On Tuesday we had to go to Aranui School to do cross country while the other half of the class went to Palmerston. At Aranui I came 10th out of over 120 people racing. It was very hard and I came the best out of every body in the school. On Thursday we did some art. We did scribble pictures. We had to get a piece of paper and draw lots of scribble lines. We had to choose 3 colours that work well together and colour each section. The habits of mind that we learnt was gathering data through all senses.
SO WHAT: I learnt how to make a spinning top out of wood, I learnt a new experiment, and learnt a new habits of mind.
NOW WHAT: My goal for this week was to finish all of my work on time and do well in class and I think I've done that pretty well. My goal for next week is to do the same thing.

Olympic week closing ceremony

Yesterday it was the Carlton School Olympics closing ceremony. At first I felt pretty sad but happy because then I wouldn't have to get sore muscles and a pulled hamstring again. It had been an awesome adventure and was a pretty sore one at times but I think that it was worth it. After lunch time we all had to line up,  go into the hall and go into our house groups. We had Phillipa Baker Hogan, a gold medalist in the 1992's hand out our medals. When she came in she talked to us all about persisting and her Olympics life. Mrs Larsen called out the bronze, silver and gold medalist for each sport. I got a gold medal for soccer, hockey and a silver for long distance.

Week 8 Reflection

WHAT: On Monday Andrew Little came to our school to look at some of our classes. On Tuesday we had a house meeting because we are going to have a Carlton School Olympics so we had to pick a song and make an Olympic flag. On Wednesday a nutritionist called Nova come to our class and talked to us about healthy eating. On Thursday Mrs O'Connor taught us for the day. We did what's on top, we read a story about farts and did a science experiment. On Friday we went to New world to meet Nova and we all got given a board with a piece of paper that had lots of things about healthy eating. We had to get into a groups of 4 and go around the grocery store searching for foods and we had to write down how much sugar, fat and things like that was in it.
SO WHAT: I learnt how to read labels on the back of grocery items properly. I learnt how to do this very cool science experiment.
NOW WHAT: My goal was to finish all of my work on time and do well in class. I think I've done that pretty well because most of the time we were out doing other things instead of doing lots of work. My goal for next week is to do the same thing again.
